A New Bid on the Horizon

Lyon, having recovered from a precarious start to their season, are reportedly preparing to launch a fresh bid for West Ham United’s winger Said Benrahma. The French club’s initial approach was met with hesitation from the Algerian international, who was uncertain about the prospect of joining a team battling relegation, even on a temporary basis.

Luring the Hammers’ Star

Despite the earlier setback, Lyon are optimistic about obtaining the green light to officially court the West Ham player. They aim to present a compelling proposal to the Hammers, hoping to convince the club and the player of the potential move.

West Ham’s Price Tag

West Ham United have set a firm stance, seeking a guaranteed £20 million fee should Lyon avoid relegation. John Textor, the owner of Lyon, is believed to be considering this demand. Meanwhile, Hammers’ manager David Moyes is open to Benrahma’s departure, provided the club can secure a suitable replacement, with the final say resting with the club’s hierarchy.

Benrahma’s Future in the Balance

At 28, Benrahma has also caught the attention of clubs in Saudi Arabia and might find himself departing from the London Stadium within the next month. The winger joined West Ham in 2021 for a total package of £30 million from Brentford following a fruitful loan spell which paved the way for Jesse Lingard’s arrival at the club.

Competition for Places

Despite a commendable tally of 12 goals in 52 appearances last season, Benrahma has found it challenging to replicate that form this term. With only 13 appearances and no goals to his name this campaign, he has seen new signing Lucas Paqueta take over the reins, becoming a new favourite among the fans.
