MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned fans it may take longer to break Liverpool and Manchester City’s Premier League title domination.
The Norwegian fears it is harder to win the title now than it was during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.
Next year it will be TEN years since the Prem crown returned to Old Trafford as Fergie’s era began to move into its dying embers.
And over the last three years it has been won by Manchester City twice, before Liverpool finally ended their 30 years of hurt this term.
United are onto their fourth manager since Fergie quit in 2013, with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all failing with the poisoned chalice of following the great Scot.
The Manchester giants won 13 Prem titles in Fergie’s 26-year reign.
Solskjaer warned: “We’ve got to be honest enough to say it is more difficult now.
“We’ve always had challengers, whether it was Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool. But most of the time it was just one of them challenging us.
“Finishing third wasn’t normal. Now there are at least four, maybe five teams that can win the league and the cups.”
And big-spending Chelsea will be expected to mount a serious title challenge after bringing in £48m striker Timo Werner and £33m Ajax talisman Hakim Ziyech.
The Blues are also looking at bringing in West Ham midfielder Declan Rice for £45m.
United themselves want £110m Jadon Sancho as their big-money summer signing.
Solskjaer spent big last summer, bringing in £85m Harry Maguire and £50m right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, before the £55m January transfer of Bruno Fernandes.
But you sense United are still a little behind Liverpool and City in the race for next season’s crown.
