MANCHESTER UNITED paid just £600 for teenage sensation Mason Greenwood.
And his local club, Idle FC near Bradford, used the cash to pay for new kits and equipment.
An Old Trafford scout spoke to Marcus Strudwick, the Idle chairman, and asked Greenwood’s dad if his son would like to train at United’s development centre in Halifax.

United gave Strudwick a £600 cheque, and the young striker was on the road to a career at Old Trafford.
Strudwick told The Times: “With hindsight, I should have taken a picture of the cheque.
“The money went towards buying new kit, equipment and setting up a new team.”
According to Transfermarkt, Greenwood now has a value of £26million.
Although Man Utd would likely be able to command much more than that if they ever considered selling the 18-year-old.
Paul Newsham, who coached the young Greenwood at Idle FC, has revealed he would be contacted by scouts from the likes of Manchester United and Leeds to see if the young striker was playing.
He gave Greenwood his debut as a six-year-old, playing with and against boys a year older than him.
Newsham told The Times: “Loads of scouts would ring me up about him every Saturday.
“I used to get phone calls from Huddersfield, Blackburn, Leeds, Man United . . . all of them.”
His debut went well – he scored all ten goals.
Newsham said: “We won 10-1 and Mason got all ten goals.
“Once your team got to ten back in those days you had to stop the game because it wasn’t nice for the opposition, so I kept having to take him off.
“Every time he came off he stood at the side of me, looked up and said, ‘Paul, can I go back on the pitch?’
“So I would send him back on and he would score again. He was tiny but no one could lay a glove on him. That’s what made him so special.”
Many knew back then he would go on to become a sensation in the Premier League.
Greenwood has become an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Old Trafford revolution.
