Man Utd ‘set to resume search for director of football’ with Juventus chief Paratici ‘on three-man shortlist for job’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly set to reignite their pursuit for a director of football.

The club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward first looked at the position two years ago to help the Red Devils on the transfer front.

United legends Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra had discussions over the potential role and gave the 48-year-old their views on how they believed things could be improved.

Ex-PSG chief Antero Henrique and Red Bull’s head of sport Ralf Rangnick were also sounded out.

But it was thought Old Trafford bosses cooled their interest in finding someone for the role earlier this year.

It was previously reported that club chiefs had a renewed confidence in how potential targets are being identified following the success of January signing Bruno Fernandes.

According to the Telegraph, Woodward has put the role back on his agenda but is yet to start the process of shortlisting the right candidates.

However, the report adds that Henrique is still highly rated, as is Juventus’ Fabio Paratici.

Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta is also among the sporting directors who may be tempted by a switch to United.

The Red Devils new director of football would work with the current set-up, which has served them so well over the past 18 months.

Woodward is desperate for United to continue their approach from splashing out huge sums on ready-made stars to developing young talent.

The United chief has seen big earners like Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Bastian Schweinsteiger flop at Old Trafford.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer splashed out £70million last summer to bring in winger Dan James, 22, and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, also 22.
