Man Utd wonderkid Mason Greenwood tipped to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record, by the man himself

MANCHESTER UNITED sensation Mason Greenwood has been tipped to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record – by the man himself.

Newcastle and England legend Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer with 260 to his name.

Greenwood, 18, has been a revelation for Man Utd

There was a time when Spurs frontman Harry Kane was tipped as the one who would obliterate Shearer’s record – which has stood since he retired in 2006.

But Greenwood, 18, has been a revelation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season – and duly been rewarded with a new £40,000-a-week deal.

Greenwood’s equaliser against West Ham on Wednesday night was his fifth goal in seven games since football resumed after the coronavirus break.

His 17th goal of the season saw him draw level with club icons Wayne Rooney and George Best for most goals scored by a teenager across all competitions.

Shearer – who has also tipped Greenwood to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad – reckons that electrifying start to life in the top flight will continue for years to come.

Speaking on Match of the Day, he said: “A potential superstar.

“I respect the power, he can do it with his left or right foot.

“He gets it away early and the goalkeepers have no chance.

“I think in 12 or 13 years time we could be talking about the Premier League record goalscorer.

“I know there’s so many things that can happen in your career but I think he’s that good.

Shearer reckons Greenwood could be the one to break his Prem goalscoring record

“He’s 18 years of age, he’s going to get bigger, he’s going to get better.”

Rooney is in second place on the all-time list with 208 goals, with Andy Cole on 187 and Sergio Aguero on 180.

Kane, tipped by many to be the one who breaks the glass ceiling, is on 142 at the age of 26.
