Middlesbrough news: Boro pull out of hunt to sign Kieffer Moore

Middlesbrough have pulled out of the race to sign Wigan Athletic striker Kieffer Moore, Football Insider understands.

The 27-year-old is expected to leave the Latics this summer after the club entered administration and suffered relegation to League One.

A source at the Riverside has told Football Insider that Boro, who were plotting a potential move for the 6ft 4in giant [Transfermarkt], have withdrawn their interest as a deal is proving to be too expensive.

As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday, Championship rivals Derby County have joined QPR and Millwall in the fight to sign the Wales international.

It is understood the Hoops and the Lions have already tabled bids for his capture.

Moore is in high demand after scoring 10 goals and five assists in 36 appearances for Wigan last season.

However, his efforts were not enough to keep the north-west outfit from suffering relegation as the 12-point deduction for entering administration dropped them into the bottom three.

Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock is in the market for a new striker and had identified Moore as a potential target for his first transfer window in charge in the north east.

However, Boro have decided to move their attention to alternative options after a deal for the Wigan man proved to be too expensive.

Ashley Fletcher was the top scorer at the Riverside last season with 13 goals in 46 appearances, while Britt Assombalonga struck 11 times across all competitions.

Boro finished 17th in the Championship last season, just five points off the relegation zone.

In other Middlesbrough news, it can be REVEALED the club are in talks with a 28-year-old who has just quit QPR.
