Middlesbrough news: Hall on way for medical at Boro

Former QPR defender Grant Hall is travelling to Middlesbrough today for a medical ahead of a free transfer to the Riverside, Football Insider understands.

This site revealed on Thursday that Neil Warnock’s men were in talks to sign the 28-year-old after he turned down a new contract at Loftus Road.

A source at Boro has told Football Insider that the centre-back is on his way to the north east today (Friday, 31 July) to undergo the necessary medical tests and put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

It is understood that Swansea City were also in discussions with the former Tottenham youngster but that he has been convinced by Warnock’s plans for him on Teeside.

Hall saw his five-year stint with QPR come to an end earlier this month after he rejected the club’s offer of a new contract.

He made a total of 130 appearances during his time with the Hoops and was handed the captain’s armband by manager Mark Warburton at the start of the 2019/20 season.

He featured 30 times and scored five goals as the club finished 13th in the second-tier table.

Middlesbrough are in the market for a new centre-back after long-serving stalwart Daniel Ayala left the Riverside at the end of his contract.

Warnock views Hall as the ideal replacement for the Spaniard and has moved quickly to try and get him on board.

Middlesbrough, who have confirmed that Warnock will remain as manager next season, are looking to improve on a 17th-placed finish this season.

Dael Fry is Boro’s only recognised senior centre-back at present, though George Friend and Anfernee Dijksteel were used as makeshift options towards the end of the season.

In other Middlesbrough news, there has been a major update in Boro’s bid to sign a giant Wigan star.
