Newcastle ‘in there’ to sign Champions League star ‘worth more than Antony’

Newcastle United will bid to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in the coming months, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

The talented 21-year-old is reportedly on the radar of a number of Premier League sides and is expected to be at the center of a fiercely fought transfer battle when the market reopens for business.

What is the latest news related to Mudryk?

In September, The i revealed that Newcastle were the latest team to join the race for Mudryk’s signature, with Shakhtar said to value their prized asset at £50m.

However, the Ukrainian side’s sporting director Carlo Nicolini has since claimed that Mudryk will cost “more than Antony” following his big move from Ajax to Manchester United in the previous transfer window.

“Is 40 million euros enough to buy him? We don’t talk about these figures. Not for 50 million euros, we don’t even call the president to inform him of the offer”, he explained to the program, TV Play.

The latest transfer from GiveMeSport

“We value Mudryk more than Antony from Manchester United, who cost €100m (£86m). We are not forced to sell, we don’t want to make a fuss.”

Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Brentford also appear as potential suitors, although his new price tag may put him out of reach for some of those clubs.

What has O’Rourke said about Mudryk?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, O’Rourke said: “For sure they are there. I think it will be very difficult for Newcastle to persuade Mudryk to move to St. James’ Park.

“I’m sure Mudryk will be looking to join one of the elite clubs in Europe right now with the form he’s shown with Shakhtar, especially in the Champions League this season.

“So he won’t be short of people, you have teams like Arsenal and other Premier League clubs as well as clubs from all over Europe who I’m sure are interested in Mudryk.”

Where would Mudryk fit in at Newcastle?

Mudryk has featured primarily on the left throughout his albeit short senior career, allowing him to cut in with his stronger right foot and pose a direct goal threat.

Allan Saint-Maximin currently starts there when fit for Newcastle, although previous reports have claimed Eddie Howe is open to sanctioning his sale.

Alan Shearer celebrates the goal

The Premier League and Newcastle United’s all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave his club?

2004 2008 2002 2006

However, the prospect of Mudryk lining up alongside Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson is likely to be scary for any opposition defence.

Mudryk’s displays in the Champions League suggest he could be an upgrade at Saint-Maximin, and his acquisition would surely be seen as a major coup should Newcastle secure his signature.
