Newcastle United tried to sign Harrison Ashby in the summer but were shot down by West Ham.
Sky Sports have now reported that Newcastle have come in with a new bid for the right-back, but once again, West Ham have rejected that new offer.
The broadcaster said negotiations are still ongoing between the Hammers and the Magpies.
It has been made public that Eddie Howe wants to bring in a young right-back to act as cover and learn from Kieran Trippier.
Eighteen-year-old Ivan Fresneda has been regularly watched by NUFC scouts playing for Real Valladolid and I think it’s now only a matter of whether it will be this month, or the summer, when a young right-back breaks into the squad ‘Eddie Howe.
The right-back has been with West Ham since the age of nine and made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in 2020, before making his first Premier League appearance in December 2021.
Harrison Ashby was named in three of West Ham’s Premier League matchday squads in August as an unused substitute, but David Moyes has not included him in a PL matchday squad since.
Although Ashby started this season’s Europa Conference League in August, he then came off the bench in a 3-0 home win against FCSB in November.
Emil Krafth is ruled out for the season with an ACL injury and Javier Manquillo is currently covering for Kieran Trippier.
Harrison Ashby has so far refused to sign a new contract and as things stand he will be out of contract in the summer, so you’d think West Ham would be interested in selling the player now if he doesn’t sign another deal . The Hammers would still be entitled to a development fee in the summer if Ashby were to join Newcastle (or any other club), although it will surely be less than any transfer fee that would be agreed now.
Having turned just 21 in September, one advantage of signing Harrison Ashby is that he will not take up a place in Newcastle United’s official 25-man Premier League squad as he will be counted as an extra – a minor player 21 years old, the same as Elliot Anderson.
