Paul Robinson has lavished praise on “outstanding” Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England number one claimed that the St. James’ Park stopper is only just behind the “elite” stoppers in the Premier League – such as Alisson at Liverpool and Ederson at Manchester City – in terms of his quality.
The Toon Army recently tied 23-year-old keeper Freddie Woodman down to a new contract before sending him out for a second consecutive season-long loan to Swansea City.
And Robinson is unsurprised to see the academy graduate depart given the level of competition he faces at his parent club.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “There’s no opportunities there for him [Woodman] at the moment because of Dubravka.
“I think he was their player of the year last season. When he first arrived on loan, he was pretty much an unknown quantity, but he established himself quickly, he adapted very well to the Premier League, and they signed him permanently at the first opportunity.
