Leeds’ club record signing Georginio Rutter is set to get his first taste of English football in tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Accrington.

The France Under-21 striker, a recent signing from Hoffenheim for a fee that could rise to £36m, was an unused substitute in Sunday’s Premier League draw with Brentford.

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, who has never lost against lower league opposition as head coach, said: “George looked really good in training. I think there’s a good chance we’ll start with him.

Leeds have been the victims of more cup giant-killings than their fans care to remember over the past 20 years, having been toppled by then-third-tier Cardiff when they topped the league in 2002 and since then abandoned by the likes of Hereford, Histon, Rochdale, Sutton, Newport and Crawley.

Marsch won’t be taking League One side Accrington lightly, adding: “One of the reasons I think we’ve always managed cup moments like this with the teams I’ve been with is because I want the team always play with full intensity.

Never take anything for granted and against lower league teams, I think maybe that’s the most important thing.”
