Portugal rocked before Euro 2020 as Joao Cancelo tests positive for COVID-19 and is replaced by forgotten Man United man Diogo Dalot

Joao Cancelo will be replaced be Diogo Dalot in the Portugal squad for Euro 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Manchester City defender will now have to isolate after the positive test, as he follows UEFA protocol to control the virus.

Even if he tests negative, the right-back cannot be called back into the squad in what will be a huge blow for the defending European champions.

Cancelo was set to be an instrumental part of Fernando Santos’ team and scored against Israel in their final preparation, offering a real threat down the right hand side.

Manchester United man Dalot spent last season at AC Milan and the 22-year-old represented Portugal at the Under-21 tournament last month.

Portugal have arguably the toughest group in the competition and begin their campaign against Hungary on Tuesday afternoon.

However, after that they then face Germany and then France, with the possibility of facing England in the knockout stage.
