Ralf Rangnick thrilled after Man Utd scrape West Ham victory with controversial, last-gasp goal

RALF RANGNICK hailed Manchester United’s last-gasp triumph over luckless West Ham as ‘the best type of win’.

Edinson Cavani teed up fellow sub Marcus Rashford to slot the only goal as the Red Devils went fourth in the Premier League.

The Hammers limited United to few chances and VAR only ruled Cavani onside for the winner by the tiniest of margins.

But Rangnick told Sky Sports: “The atmosphere (in the dressing room) is amazing. Quite rightly the boys were celebrating. They know what a massive win this was.

“Those are the best kind of wins when the other team has not time to come back.

“We are extremely happy with the performance and the level of physicality we played with bearing in mind we played three days ago at Brentford.

“We didn’t always find the best solutions in the final third. In the last 20 minutes we had too many shots on goal when there was no realistic chance to score.

“We needed to be a bit more patient, but in the end it was about taking all three points.

“We had to take some risks in the last 15 minutes but in the end I wanted to show the players it is about winning this game and I’m more than happy we scored the goal in the last minute.”

Unsettled Martial and Cavani only came on for the final eight minutes, with Cristiano Ronaldo United’s only starting frontman to stay on.

But it was the Frenchman’s pass that released Cavani, who delayed his move to beat the offside trap and crossed for 62nd minute sub Rashford to tuck in.

And Rangnick told Sky Sports: “It takes patience to play West Ham.

“I am very pleased the three subs prepared the goal and scored the goal. All were involved. That makes it even more important.”
