Rangers news: AC Milan make approach to sign Morelos

AC Milan have been in contact with Rangers about signing Alfredo Morelos this summer, Football Insider can reveal.

The Colombia international, 24, had been close to joining Lille but their interest has cooled as they close in on Jonathan David from Gent.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Milan have now registered their interest in landing Morelos in what would be a blockbuster deal.

The seven-times Champions League winners are keen on exploiting the striker’s desire to play for a leading European club after three goal-drenched years in Glasgow.

It remains to be seen if they will offer the £17m that Lille had discussed paying the Light Blues for their prize asset.

Rangers have paved the way for Morelos to leave by signing two new strikers in the last week.

Kemar Roofe joined from Anderlecht for around £4.5million and Cedric Itten signed from St Gallen for around £2.7m.

Morelos has continued to lead the line for Rangers and has started their opening three SPL matches of the season.

Steven Gerrard selected him ahead of Roofe and Itten for last night’s 3-1 win over St Johnstone although the Swiss replaced the Colombian after 61 minutes.

Morelos had gone nine games without a goal, and netted once in 14, before his brace last Sunday against St Mirren.

He had not scored in the Scottish Premiership since Boxing Day, but has now registered 79 goals in 141 games for Rangers after beginning his fourth season at the club.

In other news, Rangers have agreed a new deal worth more than £10million in total.
