Rangers news: Hutton – £14m tough to turn down for Kent

Alan Hutton insists that it would be difficult for Rangers to turn down an offer of £14million for Ryan Kent from Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers and Scotland full-back claims the board at Ibrox would demand around £16million for the 23-year-old if the Whites come in with another bid.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Premier League outfit are set to up their offer after their initial £8.5million plus add ons offer was rejected by the Glasgow giants.

Reports in Scotland suggest Leeds will return with a £14million bid and a double-your-money contract offer to Kent.

The former Liverpool starlet cost the Gers £7million last summer after he impressed during his initial loan spell at Ibrox.

Hutton has been left raving over the winger’s “exceptional” performances in Glasgow but insists that a £14million-plus offer would turn heads in Rangers’ boardroom.

Hutton told Football Insider: “If the bid’s big enough, you know what happens, they’re going to have to listen to it.

“They paid £7million for him, if you’re talking £14million up, it’s going to be difficult to say no to so it’s a catch-22 when it comes to Ryan Kent.

“They’ll obviously try and squeeze it out for as much as possible. If Leeds come back at £14million, they’ll probably say they want £16million, it’s just the way it goes.

“If we’re talking around that sort of money, 14, 15, £16million, it’s going to be very difficult to turn that down.

“He’s been exceptional for Rangers over the time and he’s an excellent player for them at the moment but to turn that sort of money down, I’m not so sure they could do that.”

Kent has played 81 times for Rangers to date and he has 17 goals and 13 assists to his name.

He has already scored three times in five Premiership appearances this season.
