Rangers news: Hutton – Gers robbed for Greg Docherty

Alan Hutton claims that Hull City have got a “great deal” after they secured the signing of Greg Docherty from Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender and boyhood fan of the club believes the Glasgow giants could have demanded more for the 23-year-old.

Rangers announced Docherty’s move to the Tigers on Thursday after Football Insider revealed the Gers had accepted a £400,000 bid for the midfielder.

Docherty joined the Glasgow giants from Hamilton back in 2018 for a fee of around £600,000 but played just 19 times for the club.

However, Hutton believes that the Light Blues could have demanded more the midfielder after his impressive performances out on loan at Shrewsbury Town and Hibernian.

“Funnily enough I was looking at the numbers this morning and they’ve sold him for £400,000 but they bought him for £600-700,000, roughly,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“He made 19 appearances, six assists which is actually not bad if you think about it as he hardly played. Then he went on his two loan spells – 58 appearances, 13 goals, 16 assists, that’s good!

“I think if anything Hull’s getting a great deal. If you think about with his stats, it’s actually a really good deal.

“Rangers possibly could have got a little bit more, they’re probably cutting their losses and trying to get rid of some fringe figures. That’s one they would have known doesn’t have a future at Rangers so let’s move him on and free up some space.”

Docherty’s last appearance for Rangers came back in August 2019 in a Scottish League Cup win over East Fife.

In other Rangers news, Hutton has dropped a major Morelos transfer claim.
