Rangers news: Marseille reignite interest in Morelos

Marseille are preparing a big-money move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, Football Insider can reveal.

The French big guns have reignited their interest in the Colombia international, 24, after trying to sign him last year.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Marseille are ready to test Rangers’ resolve to hang on to Morelos after a potential move to their Ligue 1 rivals Lille was dashed.

This comes after this site revealed last week that AC Milan are also keen on exploiting the striker’s desire to play for a leading European club after three goal-drenched years in Glasgow.

Marseille were previously linked with a £16million swoop for Morelos, while Lille discussed paying the Light Blues £17m for their prize asset.

Speaking in late July Lille president Gerard Lopez made it clear the Rangers forward was a key target and that discussions took place.

But the French outfit last week signed their number one target in £27m Canadian striker Jonathan David.

Rangers have paved the way for Morelos to leave by signing two new strikers this month in Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.

Morelos has continued to lead the line for Rangers and has started their opening four SPL matches of the season.

Steven Gerrard selected him ahead of Roofe and Itten for both of their last two league fixtures, against St Johnstone and Livingston.

Morelos has failed to score in 11 of his last 12 Rangers matches, finding the net only with his double against St Mirren earlier this month.

But he has registered 79 goals in 142 games for the Glasgow giants after beginning his fourth season at the club.

In other news, Rangers have agreed a new deal worth more than £10million in total.
