Frank McAvennie has fired Rangers a warning ahead of their Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen tonight.
The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, has claimed that tonight’s fixture will “take a lot out of” Steven Gerrard’s side with a difficult game against St Mirren on the weekend.
The Gers are in Germany to face Leverkusen tonight as they look to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg before returning to Ibrox to face St Mirren on Sunday.
New signings Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten will not be available but Steven Gerrard insisted that Alfredo Morelos is ready and itching to play.
McAvennie has claimed that the quick turnaround between games will be an early test for the Teddy Bears’ squad.
“Rangers have got a big game this weekend, St Mirren at home,” he told Football Insider.

“They got a good result at home against Livingston. It will be interesting with no crowds. I think St Mirren will have a right go and Rangers will be tired because they have got this Europa League match tonight.
“That is a big one for them because they are going to go for it because they are 3-1 down – that will take a lot out of them. It will test the resolve of their squad because St Mirren will not be an easy task, that is for sure.”
In his pre-match press conference, Gerrard said: “We just need to focus on our game and the challenge in front of us.
“We have prepared in pre-season with no fans and we played at the weekend with no fans and up to now, the performances have been really strong, so hopefully we can continue to build on those performances tomorrow.”
