Rangers news: Robinson labels Ibrox star 'One of the Best'

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Rangers striker Jermain Defoe after he scored his 300th club career goal at the weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Tottenham and England goalkeeper labelled his former teammate as “one of the best natural finishers I’ve ever seen.”

Defoe marked his first start of the season with a fantastic first-time finish after a ball over the top from James Tavernier to reach the milestone.

The 57-capped England international missed the beginning of the season with a hamstring injury and has featured just four times for the Light Blues this campaign.

Asked by Football Insider about Defoe’s latest milestone, Robinson said: “It’s just a credit to himself, the way that he looks after himself, the way he is around the place to still be playing at that level at his age and to still be scoring goals regularly.

“You look back at his career, he’s had a fantastic career.

“The achievements, the amount of games that he’s played, and the biggest compliment to him is he’s an absolute gent and whenever you speak to anybody about Jermain Defoe nobody will have a bad word to say about him.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him, I class him as a good friend.

“He’s a credit to himself the way he’s kept himself in such good condition and he’s one of the best natural finishers I’ve ever seen and he’s still doing it at that level.

“It’s an astronomical number of goals.”

Speaking to Rangers TV after the game, Defoe said: “I’d been thinking about it for a while, but before the game I forgot which is sometimes a good thing.

“I enjoyed it, like you would’ve seen with the celebrations. It’s always nice to score goals but to score my 300th goal like I did, I really enjoyed that one.”

In other news, Darren Bent believes Steven Gerrard will be “absolute buzzing” after a double Rangers sighting.
