Paul Robinson has surprisingly claimed that Rangers striker Jermain Defoe may play on for “another four years” despite his latest injury blow.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, who played with the forward for both club and country, insisted that the 37-year-old could still shine at the top level well past his 40th birthday.
The Gers hitman is currently sidelined with a hamstring strain, and suffered a setback in his recovery from that knock during a training session last week.
He also ended last season with a series of calf injuries that saw him feature just once after the end of January.
But Robinson does not believe that the complaints are a sign that his age is catching up with him and believe his old teammate can, against all logic for strikers and recent evidence, go on for many more years at the top level.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think he’s a really fit lad. He’s looked after himself all his career.
