Noel Whelan has tipped Ryan Kent to have a “massive season” for Rangers after he “started off like a house on fire”.
The former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that Steven Gerrard will expect more from the 23-year-old this year in the way of goals and assists.
Kent scored the only goal of the game as the Gers got off to a winning start in the Scottish Premiership with a 1-0 win at Pittodrie on Saturday.
In the 2019/20 campaign the winger’s 32 appearances yielded eight goals and four assists.
Whelan heaped praise on the former Liverpool attacker and claimed that Leeds were interested in his services before he moved to Ibrox.
“Steven Gerrard expects him to have a big season and improve on last year,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a great player, he really is. Leeds United were looking at him at one time.
“He has a great left foot and he proved it with the finish. A perfectly timed run, lovely ball from Morelos into him but his composure in front of goal was fantastic.
“This season is a massive season for him because I think more was expected from him last year. He was good but Gerrard will want him to add more assists and goals, be there for the full 90 minutes.
“Kent definitely has the ability and he has started off like a house on fire. He is just going to better and better.”
Up next for the Gers is a trip to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their Europa league clash.
Steven Gerrard’s side must overturn a 3-1 deficit if they wish to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that rising star has accepted an offer to sign for Manchester City as he closes in on a six-figure transfer.
