Preston North End will make fresh attempts to tie Daniel Johnson down to a new contract after fending off Rangers during the transfer window, Football Insider understands.
The left-footed midfielder, 28, was axed from the North End squad earlier in the season as the Glasgow giants pushed hard to lure him to Ibrox.
The 10-week gap until the January window provides a fresh opportunity for Preston to work on securing Johnson to a long-term deal.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that is the plan of Alex Neil’s side as they regard Johnson as crucial to their promotion hopes.
Rangers were not willing to meet Preston’s summer asking price for the versatile midfielder but he will be cheaper in January if he does not sign a contract extension.
