Renée Slegers journey from career ending ACL-injury to Arsenal Head Coach | WSL

Looking Back at My Football Journey

Hi there! I’m Rene Slagers, the head coach of Arsenal, and I’m excited to share some memories from my football journey. I started with the Dutch national team, reflecting on my early days and the pivotal moments that shaped my career.

From my youth games to my debut in 2009, I faced tough decisions about my future in football while balancing my studies. I had a significant experience during the 2009 Euros, which shifted my mindset and helped me secure a spot in the national team.

My move to Sweden in 2011 was a game-changer, where I developed physically and mentally, despite facing injuries. I enjoyed playing alongside talented teammates and learned valuable lessons about teamwork and defense.

After a successful stint in Sweden, I transitioned into coaching, starting with the under-19 team and eventually leading the first team. My journey brought me to Arsenal, where I embraced the opportunity to contribute to the growth of women’s football.

Now, as I step into my role as head coach, I look forward to building a strong team and creating a positive environment for our players. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
