Southampton youngster vows to ‘strive for more’ after agreeing deal

Rising star Diamond Edwards believes he is in a “very good position” to impress Nathan Jones and his coaching staff once he returns from injury.

The 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup at Cambridge United earlier this season, this week signed a contract extension to keep him at Saints until June 2025.

He is currently rehabbing after suffering an ACL injury.

But when he returns to action on the south coast, the former Reading youngster will be doing his best to impress.

He told the club’s website: “It was really nice to get a taste of what it was like to be around the first-team set-up.

“Being around this environment gave me an incentive to strive for more. I would love to go back and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

“As I said before, the staff trust me and understand that I have been through a lot, and that the ability I have can take me even further.

“It’s good to know that I have that security in the future. I know what the future holds.

“If I can come back stronger, which I will, it will just give me the belief and the ability to impress, make a good first impression. I think I’m in a really good position.”
