Kevin Phillips is adamant that Marcus Maddison would be an asset to Sunderland next season after the attacker opened up on a move to the Stadium of Light.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that a player of the 26-year-old’s quality would help Phil Parkinson side gain promotion.
Maddison is a free agent this summer after he left Peterborough United upon the expiration of his contract last month.

Stay humble 🙏🏼 Focus on what you can affect in the here & now, don’t get bogged down in what isn’t going right for you & try focus on the positives. This past month has been hell for me waiting on a phone call that never comes but I try stay positive & in shape so when I return im the best I can be 🙌🏼⚽️ #MM11 #football #life
The attacking midfielder has been very open on social media about about his future plans and appeared flatter by links to Wearside but insisted that he has received no offer.
Phillips stressed the important of this year for the Black Cats and said that promotion was “more critical than it has ever been”.
