Kevin Phillips wants three more signings at Sunderland after the arrivals of Bailey Wright and Aiden O’Brien last week.
The Stadium of Light legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is confident that Wright and O’Brien coupled with two or three more deals can propel Phil Parkinson’s side to promotion next season.
The signing of Bailey Wright was confirmed by the Black Cats on Sunday after Football Insider exclusively revealed that a two-year contract offer had been accepted on the 22nd of July.
He joined Aiden O’Brien at the Stadium of Light who became Parkinson’s first summer signing last week when he joined from Millwall on two-year deal.
The club’s recruitment is not expected to stop there with seven senior players having left so far this summer.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to last week’s double deal, Phillips said:

“Speaking to my Sunderland pals, they are delighted that Bailey Wright has re-signed and it is great to see that they have signed Aiden O’Brien as well.
“Those two players, with maybe another two or three more, you hope would be enough to push them to promotion next season.”
When speaking on the signing of Wright, Parkinson told the club’s website: “I’m delighted to have signed Bailey. He’s a very good player, but he’s also an excellent character and leader.
“He’s a really important signing for us and because of his quality, there was plenty of competition for his signature, so I’d like to credit the owner and Jim Rodwell for getting the deal over the line.”
In other Sunderland news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider he expects defender to shine at Stadium of Light next season after new deal is agreed.
