A Glimpse into the Craftsmanship

An incredible video has surfaced, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into creating the prestigious Ballon d’Or trophy. This stunning piece, which will be awarded to the world’s best footballer, is a true testament to artistry and dedication.

Countdown to the Big Announcement

The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or will be revealed on Monday at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, igniting excitement among football fans worldwide.

What Makes the Trophy So Special?

The Ballon d’Or, as its French name implies, is designed in the shape of a golden ball and is valued at approximately £2,400. Crafted from two brass plates that are meticulously soldered together, the trophy features lined markings that mimic a football’s surface. After being dipped in gold, it is engraved with the iconic “Ballon d’Or” logo, and finished off with a layer of pyrite crystals that give it a striking, rock-like appearance.

Dimensions and Weight

Standing at 31 cm tall and 23 cm in diameter, the award weighs just over 7 kg. This impressive size and weight add to the trophy’s allure, making it a coveted prize for footballers around the globe.

Handcrafted with Care

Each trophy is handmade by a skilled team at the French Jewellery House Mellerio dits Meller, with the entire process taking over 100 hours—about four days—to complete. Fans have been captivated by its simple yet careful design, with many taking to social media to express their admiration.

A Shift in Nominations

This year marks a notable change, as Uefa will assist in organising the award for the first time. Notable nominees include Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Manchester City’s Rodri, alongside Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Harry Kane, and Lamine Yamal. Interestingly, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo, who have dominated the awards in recent years, have received nominations this time.

The Voting Process Explained

The Ballon d’Or winner is determined by 100 journalists, each representing one of FIFA’s top-ranked member nations. These journalists will rank their top 10 picks from a shortlist of 30 players, with a points system that awards 15 points for first place, down to one point for tenth. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the number of first-place votes received.

Football’s Most Prestigious Award

Since its inception in 1956, the Ballon d’Or has been awarded annually by the French magazine France Football. It remains one of the most prestigious accolades in the sport, celebrating not only the talent of the players but also the artistry behind the trophy itself.
