Thirty-five years to wait until your first World Cup? That was no problem for veteran USMNT defender Tim Ream, whose consistent performances in Qatar combined with solid club form with Fulham FC have earned him a nomination for the 2022 BioSteel US Soccer Player of the Year.
For the second consecutive year, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the selected Player of the Year awards, with the fan vote accounting for 15% of the total vote. Nominees for all awards are selected by the US Soccer coaching staff. Voting for the awards begins on Thursday, December 15th at 11:00 am ET and closes on December 22nd at 11:59 pm ET. The winners will be announced in the following weeks.
Let’s take a look at some of Ream’s highlights from 2022:
- After more than a year away from the USMNT, the 35-year-old center returned to deliver a hero’s performance and provide more veteran leadership for the young side during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
- He was one of three players to appear in every minute of the tournament for the United States, anchoring a back line that teamed with goalkeeper Matt Turner to earn two shutouts in a World Cup for the first time since 1930.
