Tottenham are convinced Sessegnon is a future £50m star

Longer term, he regards the 20-year-old as a left-back capable of establishing himself as a first choice for club and country, and able to shine in the Champions League.

Ex-Leeds United striker Noel Whelan agrees that Sessegnon is a special talent.

“I saw a lot of him at Fulham and he was outstanding for them, probably the best player in the Championship a few years ago,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s young and has time on his side. I expected him to make a quicker impact at Spurs, but you often get these teething troubles with young players, especially when they’re competing with top internationals.

“Once he has a run of matches under his belt and gets his confidence, there’s no doubt he’s an outstanding player.

“I think he is a £50million player in the making, and Spurs and Mourinho will, too.” 

Sessegnon has made just four Premier League starts among 12 appearances in all competitions since joining Tottenham.

This is a far cry from his exploits at Fulham, where he was named in the Championship team of the season in back to back years as a 16 and then 17-year-old, and also won the division’s coveted player of the season award.
