Tottenham news: Bent delivers verdict on Rose being frozen out

Tottenham defender Danny Rose will be seriously considering dropping down to the Championship, according to Darren Bent.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker still believes Rose is “one of the very best left-backs”.

Despite the international window closing on Monday, the 30-year-old would be free to move to the Championship until the end of the domestic window at 5pm on the 16th of October.

The 29-capped England international has been frozen out at Spurs under Jose Mourinho and has not been given a squad number for this season.

Asked by Football Insider whether he could see Rose dropping down to the second-tier, Bent said: “He’s far too good of a player to be sitting there waiting for a Championship team to come and get him, he’s far too good for that.

“It happened to me, you get to a point where you need game time maybe the options in the Premier League aren’t there or you don’t fancy it and it doesn’t make sense and you need game time.

“As far as Danny Rose goes, for me he’s one of the very best left backs when he puts it all together.

“The moment he drops down to the Championship, aspirations of getting into the England squad in the summer are gone, completely gone.

“It’s a shame though because I want to see him play football again.

“That’s what he needs to weigh up ‘do I waste a whole season and not play or do I go somewhere in the Championship and go and play week in, week out, play really well and get back to enjoying my football’.

“There’s nothing worse and not enjoyable when you’re at a club you don’t really want to be at and you’re not even on the bench and not playing at all.”
