Tottenham news: Hutton reacts as Hart joins Spurs

Alan Hutton admits he was stunned to see Joe Hart sign for Tottenham on a free transfer this week.

The former Spurs and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the 75-cap England international will push Hugo Lloris and that he has plenty to offer the dressing room in north London.

As revealed by Tottenham on Tuesday, the 32-year-old shot-stopper has agreed terms on a two-year contract after he left fellow Premier League side Burnley earlier this summer.

The former Manchester City star played just 24 times for the Clarets after he moved to Turf Moor in 2018.

Hutton admits he could hardly believe the news that Hart had signed up with the Lilywhites but insists he is a welcome addition to the squad.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I was actually surprised, I was away with a couple of Tottenham fans as well and they can’t believe it either.

“Obviously the chat was that Lloris would be the number one and Gazzaniga, when he was called upon, did do well so to read about it, it was a bit of a shock.

“I think they’ve got a quality player, he’s obviously been an England international, he brings a wealth of experience to the dressing room. If he’s coming in as a number two or whatever, I think to have that experienced head in the dressing room always helps.

“Tottenham are a young side, they’re rebuilding and to have that little bit of experience behind you, it’s always an extra factor. I think he will push Lloris, he’s obviously the number one and captain but I think he will push him.

“He’s obviously had a few years where he’s been up and down but there’s no doubting his quality, he’s still only 33, he looks after himself so overall I think that’s a good signing.”

In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed that the Lilywhites have accepted a seven-figure bid for one of their players.
