Tottenham news: Hutton tips Alli to quit Spurs in January

Alan Hutton has tipped Dele Alli to leave Tottenham within the next two months in a bid to get back playing regular first-team football.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and Scotland defender admits he is baffled by the 24-year-old’s plight in north London and suggests he needs a move away to kickstart his career.

Alli has started just twice for Jose Mourinho this season and has been snubbed from four of a possible six Premier League matchday squads.

The attacking midfielder has also fallen out of Gareth Southgate’s thinking for England, having not featured for the Three Lions in over a year.

Hutton admits he does not understand why the “fantastic” Dele has plummeted down the pecking order in north London and suggests a move away could be on the cards in the winter transfer window.

“Something has to change,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I still don’t understand what it is – does Mourinho not rate him as a player, does he not work hard enough, is he not doing the right things in training? We don’t know.

“There’s something going on there and he must play football. I think he’s a fantastic player and he should be playing the game.

“He needs to get back – whether it be at another club on loan in January or whatever but he’s such a talented boy and he has to be playing football.”

Alli has fallen behind the likes of Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in the fight for an attacking midfield role under Mourinho.

Of the quartet, the France international has featured this most this season with nine appearances under his belt.
