Tottenham news: McLeish – Mourinho will be raging over Kane

Alex McLeish claims that Jose Mourinho will have been furious Harry Kane played the full 90 minutes for England ahead of his return to Tottenham duty.

The former Aston Villa and Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the Portuguese boss would have wanted his star man to be limited in terms of game time after a frenetic start to the 2020/21 campaign for Spurs.

England boss Gareth Southgate insisted before Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Denmark that the 27-year-old was “fully fit” after reports of a possible injury niggle.

Having missed the friendly win over Wales, Kane played 24 minutes against Belgium before he started against the Danes on Wednesday night.

McLeish insists that the Tottenham boss will not have been best pleased seeing his star man given a full runout just days before Spurs’ clash against West Ham.

McLeish told Football Insider: “Mourinho will be apoplectic about that one, I’m sure he’ll be going: ‘Argh, what’s happening?’ You can imagine Jose.

“I think he’s got him back in one piece, his legs will probably be just a wee bit sore, the muscles and the masseurs will be working 24/7 over the next few days to get Harry back and ready for the next game.”

Kane has featured in all eight of Spurs’ matches this season and has started all but two of them.

He has managed to score eight goals, including a hat-trick against Maccabi Haifa, and chip in with seven assists so far.
