Tottenham news: Mills delivers verdict on Mourinho-Kane comments

Danny Mills believes Tottenham striker Harry Kane will be well rested and sharp for their game against West Ham after his limited involvement for England.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Manchester City and England full-back after it emerged there was a club v country row brewing over the England captain’s fitness.

The Guardian reported that Mourinho did not want Kane to play against Denmark in the Nations League after he was suffering with muscle fatigue before the game.

Kane played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday night as the Three Lions suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Despite being sent for a scan on his muscle fatigue, Southgate said that Kane had no injury and that he does not risk players.

Prior to the international break, the 27-year-old had featured in 10 games in a month for club and country and Mourinho warned Southgate not to use Kane in friendly matches.

Asked by Football Insider whether he thought Kane will be fit to play for Tottenham, Mills said: “I don’t think there’s any issues in that.

“Gareth is a clever guy, he knows the score, he knows what’s going on.

“Of course Mourinho is trying to protect his player as much as possible.

“He’s played a game and a bit and it’s probably done him good in all honesty.

“To have the first game off, a little bit of rest away from Tottenham, it’s something different then a little cameo against Belgium and then get 90 minutes under his belt against Denmark.

“A change is as good as a rest sometimes and I think Harry Kane has had a rest as well.

“I don’t think that will be an issue in any way shape or form.”
