Tottenham offer new formula to seal Rodon deal – EXCLUSIVE

Tottenham are offering to increase the add-ons to Swansea City in a late bid to seal the signing of Joe Rodon, Football Insider has learned.

In a new twist to discussions about luring the Wales centre-back, 22, to north London, Spurs have structured a deal with heftier top-up payments.

Tottenham have offered an initial fee of £8m plus £5m of add-ons, which is closer to the £15m in total Swansea are said to be willing to accept.

Multiple formulas have been discussed between the Premier League giants and Championship club in recent days.

Tottenham have also offered fringe stars to sweeten the transfer and get close to the £15m valuation mark.

Swansea have knocked back a number of suggestions including USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Tottenham are still hopeful of completing the signing of Rodon by Friday’s 5pm deadline even though an agreement is not yet in place.

Swansea would prefer a straight-cash deal, and the chances of a deal are likely to depend on the value of the initial payment.

The Londoners had a bid for the centre-back rejected on the international window deadline day last week.

It has been reported Swansea want nearly £18m for their academy product. Spurs are not willing to go that high.

Rodon broke into the Swansea side after their demotion from the Premier League in 2018.

The 6t 3in defender has played 54 times for the club, 52 of which have come in the Championship.

He has played the full 90 minutes of all four of Swansea’s league matches this season as well as representing Wales in their 3-0 defeat to England at Wembley last Thursday night.
