Tottenham plot shock swoop for 'brilliant' Liverpool striker

Tottenham are plotting a surprise loan move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, Football Insider understands.

Spurs are in the market for centre-forward back-up to main man Harry Kane and that is one of their main priorities in the final seven weeks of the window.

Multiple clubs in the Premier League and Championship have registered their interest in Brewster, 20, following his goal-laden loan spell at Swansea City.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the Liverpool hotshot is on their radar again after they failed with a bid to sign him permanently two years ago.

At that point, Brewster’s future was up in the air amid widespread elite-club interest but he subsequently signed a new long-term Anfield deal.

The England Under-21 striker is currently in pre-season training with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp has yet to decide whether to loan him out in the new campaign.

Spurs recognise their hopes of landing Brewster on loan may be remote as they would not be able to offer him a regular starting role.

Moreover, Liverpool may be unwilling to let him score goals for a top-four rival.

However, Tottenham are set to have a congested fixture schedule in the new campaign with multiple Europa League matches and Kane cannot be expected to play in all of them.

The England captain has also missed a big chunk of each of the last four seasons due to injury.

Brewster has only played three senior Liverpool matches but demonstrated his huge potential with 10 goals in 20 Championship matches in the second half of last season.
