Tottenham told £20m will be enough to seal Gray deal

Tottenham have been told it will take £20million to prise Demarai Gray from Leicester City this window, Football Insider understands.

This site revealed yesterday that Jose Mourinho has personally spoken to Gray, 24, as he looks to convince him to move to north London.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Leicester value the wide forward at around £20m given his contract situation.

The former Birmingham City ace has 10 months remaining on his current deal, which expires next June.

That has given Spurs encouragement they can recruit a player they have been following closely for three years.

Moreover, Gray is believed to be open to the possibility of a transfer after failing to nail down a regular starting spot in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The winger is predominantly used as a substitute by the Foxes and made just three Premier League starts last season among 29 appearances in all competitions.

He has now accumulated 167 appearances for the Premier League outfit since signing from Birmingham City in 2016, accumulating 13 goals and 17 assists.

Tottenham believe Gray is a player of immense potential with the pace, dynamism and cutting edge to open up top-flight defences.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was also a firm admirer of the former England Under-21 international, who was capped 26 times at that level.

Spurs bid for him before he signed an improved Leicester contract in 2017 and have continued to track his progress under different regimes in the subsequent period.

In other Tottenham news, Mourinho is also making progress on signing a centre-forward after huge development.
