Tottenham Hotspur should consider signing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a replacement for their current goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, according to former footballers turned pundits Craig Burley and Stevie Nicol.
Both analysts told ESPN that “Pickford is better than Hugo Lloris”, citing his recent error-prone performances and dip in form.
Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in signing Pickford from Everton.
Burley has admitted that Pickford is not a “brilliant” goalkeeper, but believes he makes “fewer mistakes” than Lloris.
The 50-cap England international has been superb for his country and has never put a foot wrong. In two World Cups and Euro 2020, he has stood tall and proven his worth.
However, criticism of the former Sunderland man has come from his performances on the domestic stage.
For the most part, over the last two seasons, he has been one of Everton’s best players, which doesn’t cost much given his struggles.
But those error-prone ways are still there, including punches in the air during Everton’s defeat to Bournemouth ahead of the World Cup.
It’s clear that with Lloris’ recent mistakes and dip in form, those at Hotspur Way will be looking for a long-term replacement for their long-serving player.
Pickford’s name has been mentioned as a potential option.
With his international experience, Pickford could be a solid addition to Tottenham’s squad and could provide competition for Lloris.
However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will make a move for the goalkeeper and whether Everton are willing to let him go.
