West Ham expect Hugill to seal exit this week as Norwich deal close

West Ham are close to getting another major earner off their wage bill by selling Jordan Hugill to Norwich City.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the Championship club are in advanced talks to sign the 28-year-old in a deal worth around £5million.

Norwich are willing to offer Hugill close to his £40,000-a-week Hammer salary to seal a deal for him in the coming days.

David Moyes has given the go-ahead for the striker to leave after he returned from his loan spell at QPR.

There has also been interest from other Championship clubs but Norwich are in pole position to seal a deal.

West Ham are eager to cut costs before they embark on their own summer spending.

They sold another fringe striker, Albian Ajeti, to Celtic last week for £4.5million rising to a potential £6m with add-ons.

The departure of Hugill for a similar fee will go some way towards providing Moyes with an injection of funds for new recruits.

Hugill joined West Ham from Preston North End back in January 2018 when Moyes was in his first spell as manager.

He struggled to replicate his fine Championship form in the Premier League and made just three appearances for the Hammers before he was shipped out on loan to Boro at the start of the 2018-19 season.

After a year in the north-east, the front man moved across London to QPR for another temporary move and banged in 15 goals in 41 appearances.

Hugill has scored a total of 42 goals in 176 matches in the second tier from spells at Preston, QPR and Boro.

In other news, Moyes has made a U-turn over signing 27-times England international.
