Darren Bent claims that Brighton defender Shane Duffy could be the “perfect” signing for West Ham this summer.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Hammers could do with a no-nonsense centre-back to bolster their backline this summer.
As revealed by Football Insider, West Ham are joined by West Brom, Sheffield United and Celtic in signing the 28-year-old this summer after his fall down the pecking order on the south coast.
Bent believes that Hammers boss David Moyes needs some grit and steel at the heart of his defence and suggests that Duffy could be the answer in east London.
Bent told Football Insider: “Sometimes that’s what you need and I know it’s fashionable to have these defenders that can play and pass and look pretty but first and foremost, with my defenders, I need them to defend.
“I need them to get their head on things, win tackles, clear the ball when it needs to be cleared, not try and be clever so I think that might just be perfect for them.
