West Ham star Felipe Anderson is in Rome trying to engineer a transfer back to former club Lazio, Football Insider can reveal.
David Moyes is keen to sell the Brazilian winger this summer to raise much-needed funds after a poor second season at the London Stadium.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Anderson, 27, and his representatives are holding preliminary discussions with Lazio chiefs over a potential move this summer.
Discussions are only at the early stages but they are a clear indicator that Anderson could be heading out of the Hammers in this transfer window.
Football Insider revealed last month the Londoners will look to cash in on the wide man following the devastating financial impact of the pandemic.
West Ham paid a then club record £36million rising to £42m for Anderson to Lazio two years ago.
They want to recoup much of that fee as he is at the prime of his career and has two years remaining on his contract as well as an option in the club’s favour of another 12 months.
The forward had an impression debut campaign following his arrival in the summer of 2018.
But he was a fringe figure following the restart as Moyes put his faith in those he felt were more reliable as West Ham escaped relegation.
Anderson scored just once and assisted five times from 27 appearances in all competitions in 2019-20.
In other news, a West Ham first-team star is plotting retirement after racking up a property fortune.
