‘Where do you want your statue Divock Origi?’ – Jamie Carragher taunts Gary Neville as cult hero seals big Liverpool win

JAMIE CARRAGHER channelled his inner Gary Neville while on Sky Sports commentary duty as he asked Divock Origi where he wants his statue.

The Liverpool icon named the Reds striker as his man of the match following his impressive outing against Everton at Anfield on Sunday.

Divock Origi scored in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against rivals Everton at Anfield and Jamie Carragher asked him where he wants his statue

Origi came off the bench on the hour mark in the Merseyside derby, where he made an instant impact in Andy Robertson breaking the deadlock in the 62nd minute.

The Belgium international then scored in the 85th minute to seal the 2-0 victory as Liverpool closed the gap on leaders Manchester City to one point.

The 27-year-old striker made no mistake from close range as he headed home after getting on the end of Luis Diaz’s acrobatic attempt.

It was Origi’s sixth goal against the Toffees in his career – more than any other side he has played against.

And as the centre-forward wheeled away in jubilation, a delighted Carragher roared: “Where do you want your statue Divock Origi?”

He took a page straight out of colleague Neville’s book, who made the same remark about Vincent Kompany in May 2019.

The Manchester City legend scored a dramatic 25-yard screamer against Leicester to edge the Citizens closer to the Premier League title, where they eventually pipped Liverpool to the championship by a point.

Kompany eventually got his statue outside the Etihad in August 2021.

And with Origi playing a starring role in Liverpool keeping the pressure on City in the title race, Carragher was quick to taunt Neville by quoting him over commentary.

Origi is set to depart Anfield in the summer when his contract expires at the end of the season, with AC Milan heavily linked with a move.

The ex-Lille man has been a peripheral figure this term, scoring three top-flight goals from just six substitute appearances.

Despite his lack of game time, boss Jurgen Klopp has labelled him as the club’s best finisher, while also labelling him as a “legend”.

Speaking after the match, he said: “He is a legend on and off the pitch. He is a fantastic footballer for me.

“And I know it sounds ridiculous as I don’t line him up often, he is a world-class striker, he is our best finisher, definitely.

“He always was and everybody would say the same when you see him do these kinds of things in training, then you see the quality of the squad and other players and it’s really hard I imagine (for him).

Reds legend Jamie Carragher named Origi as his man of the match following his 30-minute cameo off the bench

“Other players were not in the squad but in really good shape, I have really hard decisions to make because the boys all want to contribute and are responsible for the situation we are in.

“Everybody loves Div and rightly so. He was again very decisive. I’m very, very happy for him.”
